The Studio
The Studio
The Studio at The Old Rectory, Shirenewton, Chepstow
This delightful old village hall (1874) was converted in
1997, originally for use by members of our own family. We have made every
effort to preserve the character of the building by retaining the beams
and light, airy spaciousness.
The sleeping area with a double bed is contained in a gallery reached
by a conventional staircase and the fully tiled bathroom, which is enclosed
below the sleeping area, consists of an extra large shower cubicle, bidet,
basin, lavatory and wardrobe. The outstanding accommodation is open-plan
with a luxury fitted kitchen area equipped with a gas cooker, extractor
canopy, fridge, microwave oven, good quality pans, cooking equipment and
china, cutlery and glass. The floor is wood and the custom made, timber
framed windows are double-glazed.
Decoration is in muted Fowler & Ball greens and creams
while furnishing is in modern country style with a sofa, rattan chairs,
rugs, a pew and small tables. The dining table can be extended to seat
six people comfortably, but normally seats two. There is also a colour
television and a gas 'coal flame' stove to supplement the central heating.
A tiled internal entrance porch makes a good place to shed muddy boots
and to hang coats.
The pretty stone-built village of Shirenewton is a excellent
centre for exploring the Wye and Usk valleys and the Forest of Dean. Although
we are only 5 miles from the Severn Bridge you will find that we are well
and truly in the country with the advantages of a thriving village with
four pubs. We are keen walkers and have mapped several easy walks from
the house and have equipped The Studio with maps and guides books to the
surrounding area. Golfers will find a new club on the outskirts of the
village or the famous St Pierre course 4 miles away. Tennis players can
use the village court. Bed linen, towels, gas, electricity and use of
Studio washing machine and dryer included. A cot and high chair are available
with the option of a folding bed for a third occupant.
